There are so many buzz words in the Health Industry right now that it can leave your head spinning. A big one right now is CBD. What is CBD exactly? How does it work? Can it help me? Will I get high? I am not okay with smoking is there another way I can try it? The list goes on and on about this “new” product to hit the market that claims to be an end all cure for everything. Well how can that be? If that’s really true why was it not legal all along? I will answer these questions for you and more in my series of articles that you will only be able to find here on my Blog. My first article will be answering my first on the list, Just what exactly is CBD and how does it work on the human body.
Well let’s start there. It seems the Cannabis plant has gotten a bad rap from some of it’s cousin in the family tree. Who can’t relate to that? See both plants belong in the Cannabaceae Family of plants. All small group of flowering plants made up of about 170 species, including the marijuana plant (cannabis) containing both Cannabidiol (CBD) and the Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) chemical components. Marijuana (the cannabis plant) itself comes into two different species, Cannabis Sativa which is high in Cannabidiol or CBD, and the Cannabis Indica which is high in Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. CBD is not psychoactive where as THC is. When the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 was implemented there was not enough understanding or technology to determine the difference so all types of the Marijuana Plant were lumped together as “poisons”, or an intoxicating substance. Which, Science has now been able to prove there is a difference in the way the body processes each particular molecule making one get you “high” while the other heals and restores. Cannabis Sativa has naturally occurring less than .3% THC and has no harmful effects of THC.
Whew! Okay now that the history are out of the way let’s talk about CBD and how it can help you instead of using harsh pharmaceuticals that can destroy your liver and kidneys, or leave you bound to a pill bottle for the rest of your life, or even worse leave you with a chemical dependence that can lead to death. I know of this last one from first hand experience. The Opiod Epidemic is a crisis and it is getting worse every day. Did you know that a shot of morphine costs pennies on the dollar for a dose of Tylenol in the hospital? Anyways, I digress. So why should you choose naturally occurring CBD over chemical pharmaceuticals? Our body naturally produces CBD and THC through our Endo-cannabiniod System. So our bodies are already designed to intake, digest, and utilize these compounds from this particular Cannabis plant.
Our Endo-cannabiniod System consists of neurotransmitters called endocannabinoids that attach to cannabiniod receptors found in our central nervous system. These receptors are responsible for feelings from everything to hunger, happiness, anxiety, fear, joy, pain, and so on. The CBD plant and it’s makeup work to separate and inhibit these receptors reducing the effect of these feelings on our bodies. So that’s the basic science of the issue, your body wants CBD!
I encourage everyone to talk to their doctor about moving over to CBD products and reducing the amount of pharmaceuticals in your daily life. This naturally occurring plant has many health benefits and can help with:
1. Can Relieve Pain
2. Could Reduce Anxiety and Depression
3. Can Alleviate Cancer-Related Symptoms
